It’s a short pānui from us this month as staff take a very well earned break and we’re busy managing the abundance and rapid growth that comes with this time of the year. We were very sorry to have to cancel our summer solstice event due to staff sickness, but we are excited to say there are a range of other events coming up at our Urban Farm in February that we’d love to see you at: February Community Day, Saturday 1st Feb 9am - 3pm

Te Motu Kairangi, with the support of Kaicycle, warmly extends an invitation for you to experience the joy of learning and refreshing your knowledge of flax weaving. No prior experience is necessary; we welcome participants of all skill levels. Basic weaving skills and weaving tikanga will be offered, providing an opportunity to share time, skills, and support with fellow enthusiasts. Come connect over convolvulus, queer out over kopakopa, meet your new sweetheart while pulling up buttercup. This fun and dirty event will involve sharing kōrero and knowledge about lesser loved plants more commonly referred to as weeds, hands on māra activities like weeding, harvesting and planting while having a chance for cute chats with everyone there. Your matchmaker and host for the day will be local takatāpui māra fairy Tina Walker-Ferguson. This event is designed for Takatāpui Māori, 18+. For our Takatāpui whānau that aren’t currently looking for love, but keen to come for the opportunity to hang out with other takaz in the māra, you are so welcome! We’ll have a way of showing who’s single and seeking, or taken and chilling. Takatāpui Māori katoa - nau mai, haere mai xx.

Did you know that 2025 marks our ten year anniversary? We’re wanting to create some cool merch to mark the occasion and are looking for some volunteers to help with sewing tea-towels and tote bags and doing some screen printing.
