Te Motu Kairangi, with the support of Kaicycle, warmly extends an invitation for you to experience the joy of flax weaving. No prior experience is necessary; we welcome participants of all skill levels. Basic weaving skills and weaving tikanga will be offered, providing an opportunity to share time, skills, and support with fellow enthusiasts. This fun and dirty event will involve sharing kōrero and knowledge about lesser loved plants more commonly referred to as weeds, hands on māra activities like weeding, harvesting and planting while having a chance for cute chats with everyone there. This event is designed for Takatāpui Māori, 18+. For our Takatāpui whānau that aren’t currently looking for love, but keen to come to hang out with other takaz in the māra, you are so welcome! We are very pleased to offer yoga sessions at the farm on Thursday evenings in February - weather permitting. The sessions will be thoughtfully guided by Marcelly Ribeiro. Originally from Brazil, Marcelly is an experienced Hatha, Vinyasa and pregnancy yoga teacher, as well as personal trainer. Our volunteer sessions are back at the same times: Tuesdays 10am-12pm, Thursdays 4pm-6pm (except Waitangi Day), and Fridays from 10am-12pm. These are a great opportunity to be in nature, meet new people, do mahi māra, learn about regenerative horticulture and climate action! Farm Whanau. The Kaicycle urban farm runs mainly on grants that we apply for. These are always short term funds. A great way to support us is by contributing ongoing financial security by joining our Kaicycle Farm Whānau membership scheme, if you can. Committing to regular giving helps us to deliver our outreach and education programmes, involve the community in developing a resilient local food system and donate nutritious food to those in need. Team experiences. We continue to offer Team Experiences throughout the year. They are a chance to give back to nature and the community in the heart of Aotearoa’s capital city. Summer days bring abundance to the māra, the hard work is paying off with many crops ripening for harvest. All of our annual beds are planted, but the work doesn’t stop. The ecosystem needs care, such as chop-and-drop weeding and adding nutrients to the soil with our farm-made comfrey & seaweed, and dandelion fertilisers. A new fertiliser mix we’re trying is convolvulus & tradescantia. This is such a satisfying way of reusing plant-waste that we don’t put into compost piles!  Whilst maintaining and nurturing our summer plants we’ve also set aside time to begin planning our autumn /winter planting. Te taiao waits for no one.

You may have noticed something a bit different at the back of the farm, a beautiful patch full of a huge variety of plants and fruit trees. Its an example of a forest garden that’s been designed and managed by two of our wonderful volunteers. Read and see more about it here.

Waitangi Day Hīkoi

After the huge turnout for the Hīkoi mo te Tiriti in November, and making submissions to Parliament on the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill we can uphold the tikanga of Te Kahu o Te Raukura and support mana whenua by attending or volunteering at the Waitangi Day 2025: Kotahitanga & Solidarity Hīkoi.
