Ākuhata / August Community Open Day

Have you been looking for a chance to visit Kaicycle Urban Farm? Come along to one of our monthly Community Open Days! Each open day includes a working bee, shared lunch, koha workshop, and compost sales. Come along for as much or as little of the day as you would like!

9:30am - 12.30pm COMMUNITY WORKING BEE - Registrations required
Many hands make light work - come and get your hands in the māra - with a bunch of us we'll be able to get a good chunk of mahi done, plus you'll take some skills home for your own māra! Register at www.kaicycle.org.nz/volunteer

12:30PM - 1:30pm, KAI BREAK
Bring a picnic lunch and join us for koha coffee, tea, and cake.

1:00pm -1:30pm FARM TOUR
If you haven't been to our urban farm before, this is a great opportunity to find out what we're all about and how our farm and community composting works. We run this by request, so come and let us know on the day if you’re keen for a tour!

1:30pm - 3:00pm WORKSHOP: GROW YOUR OWN MULCH
Mulch makes a huge difference to soil and plant health. It protects the soil surface from weeds, erosion and moisture loss while also feeding worms and microbial life. Instead of buying pea straw or wood chip, there are many plants we can grow to use as mulch - from cannas and lupin to kawakawa and buckwheat. At Kaicycle we are planting a large mulch/flower/pollinator border to support our veggies. Come and learn how to apply this in your own gardens.

Registrations required - sign up and pay a sliding scale fee here.
