Volunteer sessions
Volunteer options
Over the warmer months, we run four weekly volunteer sessions and our Community Working Bee on the first Saturday of each month. To book your place, select your preferred session in the appropriate calendar below. If you’re under 16, you’ll need to bring a responsible adult with you!
Farmer life (10am-12 noon, Tuesdays & Fridays)
Discover a variety of regenerative farming skills alongside our community farm managers, as we complete current farm jobs. A great time for chats about life, the universe and everything, or to find peace and headspace working solo.
The complete kai-cycle (5pm - 7pm, Tuesdays)
Join our community and compost managers in the māra to get circular and take part in the journey from kai to compost and back again. The perfect opportunity to learn about composting through processing food scraps, turning piles (an awesome full body workout!), and other tasks. We'll also be carrying out gardening mahi so you get to choose your own adventure, and level of physicality, for the session.
The compost kai cycle (4.30pm-7pm, Thursdays)
Decompose your troubles away and get back to the really important stuff - making compost! You’ll get to work alongside our compost manager creating compost piles, turning compost (it’s really fun, we promise!), and keeping our composting area looking great. It’s an awesome learning opportunity and a fun way to get active while doing something tangible and rewarding.
Community working bee (9:30am-12:30pm, once a month on a Saturday)
A great way to get your weekend off to a good, wholesome start with friends, whānau, flatmates, or a date. Meet your new bestie while potting tomatoes, or solve all the worlds problems over some weeding. These sessions are always lots of fun and a great opportunity to connect with cool people, breathe the fresh air, and fill your cup.

Why volunteer with Kaicycle?
Composting and growing kai is climate action
Regenerative urban farms are climate change ready infrastructure and a way to grow radical hope through food in our times of climate change and biodiversity loss. Our local, regenerative farming mitigates the use of fossil fuels from the food system.
Grow your skills and knowledge
Our volunteer sessions are a great way to grow your skills and knowledge with your hands in the soil. You'll be involved in day-to-day farm work including seed-raising, planting, watering, mulching, weeding, compost-turning, repairs and more. Jobs vary from week to week, and season to season.
Everyone is welcome
Tamariki are welcome, however under 16s must be accompanied and supervised. If you have access needs let us know when you sign up so we can offer an activity that works for you. The farm is wheelchair accessible.
Earn Time Credits for your volunteer hours
Kaicycle is a member of Wellington Timebank. By becoming a member of Timebank, you can record the hours you volunteer at Kaicycle, then trade them for services/ resources from others in the Timebank community.
FAQS
What should I bring?
Please wear covered shoes (Gumboots, hiking or work boots, old sneakers) and weather-appropriate clothing you don’t mind getting dirty. If you can, bring your own gardening gloves and a drink bottle. We have spare gloves and provide all the tools.
Is the session still on if it’s raining?
We occasionally cancel sessions in heavy rains or strong winds if we don’t have indoor tasks in the greenhouses. You will receive a ‘booking cancelled’ notification via email if your session is cancelled, so best to check your emails before hand if you’re not sure.
I have accessibility needs
Kaicycle is committed to making our farm accessible to all. When you sign up for a session, just let us know what your accessibility needs are and we’ll make it work for you! Our farm is wheelchair accessible.
Volunteer Agreement, Health and Safety and Code of Conduct
Kaicycle is committed to making our farm a safe space for everyone. When you sign up for a session, you’ll be asked to agree to our Volunteer Agreement.
