How it works

  • Use a sealed container of your choice to collect your households’ food scraps during the week.

  • Take it to your local compost hub at least once a week, to keep things (relatively) fresh for others.

  • Use the code you’ll receive at sign-up to unlock the wheelie bin, and drop your scraps in.

  • We are now plastic free! So rather than relying on single use liners, please wash your container at home (or on site if provided). If washing your container at home or on site is not an option for you (e.g. due to specific disability or access needs), please let us know so we can make other arrangements.

What happens to the food scraps

We take care of the rest! Each week, our Kaicyclists carry the wheelie bins to our urban farm in Newtown by e-bike and trailer.

Over a ~6 month composting process, our team of staff and volunteers manually turn your food scraps into beautiful biodiverse compost that is teaming with beneficial fungi, bacteria and creepy crawlies.

We then donate the compost to local community gardens, marae and schools, use it on our urban farm in Newtown to grow local healthy kai, or sell it to home gardeners.

What we accept

Please click here to see what we do and don’t accept. We work hard to avoid contamination of chemicals, plastics and other nasties in our compost. Please help us create high quality compost by following the guidelines and get in touch if you’re unsure.

We help grow food—not landfills
