Kaicycle Community Open Day Āperira (April)
Have you been looking for a chance to visit Kaicycle Urban Farm? Come along to one of our monthly Community Open Days! Each open day includes a working bee, shared lunch, koha workshop, and compost sales. Come along for as much or as little of the day as you would like!
9:30am - 12.30pm COMMUNITY WORKING BEE - Registrations required
Many hands make light work - come and get your hands in the māra - with a bunch of us we'll be able to get a good chunk of mahi done, plus you'll take some skills home for your own māra! Register at www.kaicycle.org.nz/volunteer
12:30PM - 1:30pm, KAI BREAK
Bring a picnic lunch and join us for koha coffee, tea, and cake.
1:00pm -1:30pm FARM TOUR
If you haven't been to our urban farm before, this is a great opportunity to find out what we're all about and how our farm and community composting works.
1:30pm - 3:00pm KOHA WORKSHOP: INTRODUCTION TO SEED SAVING We know many of you couldn’t make it to our seed saving workshop in March, so we’re going to run it again for April! Seed saving is an ancient practice and an essential tool in creating a circular and resilient food system and enabling kai sovereignty. It also allows us to select for seed that will thrive in our micro-climates, strengthening crops year by year. We'll wānanga about the importance of saving seed, understanding the whakapapa of seeds and plant reproduction, and what you need to know to start saving seed yourself. We'll put our learnings into practice at the farm, saving and processing seed from our summer crops. We will have an area for swapping seed, so please bring along any saved seed you would like to swap.
Registrations required - email community@kaicycle.org.nz to sign up
This is a koha workshop and we ask you to pay what you can afford. If that’s a gold coin that is completely fine! If you can afford more we really appreciate it - we are a charity and rely on donations to be able to carry out our mahi. Koha can be paid in cash or by bank transfer.
