Numbers by no means tell the whole story, but at the end of another long (and yet somehow short…) gregorian year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect and quantify some of our most significant (and proudest!) achievements of 2025. There are so many numbers we could share with you, but we hope the ones below will give you a slice of what life was like at Kaicycle in the last 12 months and a better understanding of how we actually spend our time. After another globally tumultuous and politically disappointing year, it’s good to remember how much can be achieved by community coming together and acting locally.
On the farm:
307.6kg of kai grown at our urban farm donated to community groups
143 volunteer sessions
>1300 hours of volunteering on the farm
726 tamariki and rangatahi visited for educational experiences
17 Educational workshops
7 Community Open Days
2 huge epic community events for Matariki and our 10 year anniversary, plus some chiller events for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, Seniors Week and more!
Composting:
20,000 litres of compost made at the farm
> 32 tonnes food scraps turned into compost
6.1 tonnes of arborist mulch used as carbon material in the compost
5077 litres of compost donated to community growing projects
3820 litres of compost sold
74 degrees celcius the hottest recorded temperature in one of our compost piles (which is too hot!)
Food Scrap Collections:
We now have 104 organisations subscribed to our food scrap collection service (including 13 new joiners this year) as well as 100 households subscribed to one of our three drop-off hubs around the city
We collected the most food scraps from RNZ, with 2,300 litres
Our Kaicyclists spent more than 400 hours washing 7,497 buckets
Ngā mihi o te tau hou Pākehā! After a well earned break, we’re looking forward to getting stuck back into our climate justice and kai resilience mahi in 2026. See ya then!
