Reframing Weeds

  • Kaicycle Urban Farm 5 Hospital Road Wellington, Wellington, 6021 New Zealand (map)

Registration required, please email community@kaicycle.org.nz to sign up.

In this workshop we’re going to be reframing weeds: looking at all the ways that they can be beneficial to us. From supporting soil health, acting as a signal to help us understand our soil, and providing edible and nutritious leaves and flowers.

At the end of this workshop we hope you’ll be able to look at your weedy māra and instead of seeing another job on the to do list, you’ll see all the wonderful things the weeds are doing for us. Making peace with weeds means way less work for us as gardeners and helps us keep our garden ecosystems more in line with nature. That’s not to say all weeds are beneficial, but we’ll talk all about that…

We’ll discuss the garden ecosystem, the benefits that so called ‘weeds’ can have and techniques for controlling weeds outside of the classic weeding. We’ll also look at some common edible weeds found in most gardens and how you can safely forage weeds to spruce up your salad or make a delicious foraged tea!

This is a koha workshop and we ask you to pay what you can afford. If that’s a gold coin that is completely fine! If you can afford more we really appreciate it - we are a charity and rely on donations to be able to carry out our mahi. Koha can be paid in cash or by bank transfer.
