Keen to learn more about biological brews like SPICE that can take your compost, soil and food production to a new level? 

Kaicycle and Innermost Gardens are stoked to host two experts in organics, composting, soil health and regenerative farming from Australia - Gerry Gillespie and David Hardwick - for an afternoon workshop, while they're here in Te Whanganui a Tara/Wellington for the Post Capitalist Aotearoa Conference!

The workshop will include how to brew and use inoculants, biostimulants, and hydrolysates to "SPICE" up your compost, enhance soil health, and support regenerative food growing.

More about Gerry and David:

Gerry has over 30 years of experience in organic material recovery and soil reuse, working in government, NGOs, and as a consultant across Australia, New Zealand, and several other countries. He pioneered the City to Soil collection program and refined a composting method focused on community engagement, inspired by M E Bruce and Sir Albert Howard’s agricultural work. His book "The Waste Between Our Ears" advocates for treating waste as valuable resources, emphasizing local community benefits. Gerry is a recognized leader in the International Zero Waste movement.

David is an agroecologist and has over 20 years experience in rural landscapes, farming and food systems. He worked in community development and then horticulture before completing a dairy traineeship on an organic dairy in NSW. Since then he has had a wide ranging career working in both management and technical roles. These include Landcare extension, agronomy, soils, agribusiness, biofertiliser R&D and manufacturing, organics, training, and consulting positions. For many years he also helped run a regional farmers market business with his wife. He has also worked on rural cooperative and social enterprise projects. David also teaches soils, regenerative agriculture, farm planning and agroecology at TAFE NSW on a casual basis. David’s passion is agroecology and empowering farmers with knowledge and skills that make a difference!
